OBJECTIVES
A primary ambition for Asgard Controlled Environments was to achieve ISO14001 certification on this project. They required a software solution that could measure, monitor, and control their environmental impacts on-site. The system would need to track key metrics including energy consumption, emissions, and waste management, thus providing a real-time overview of the project’s environmental footprint.
Additionally, they required a solution that could facilitate ongoing improvements in areas such as energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction, helping to minimise the environmental impact of the project through efficient resource use and sustainable waste management.
Through understanding the commercial significance of Sustainability and possessing the ability to align professionally with the required ISO standards, Asgard Controlled Environments required a system that could demonstrate their continued commitment to social value, environmental management, and their net zero journey to prospective partners and clients.
CHANGING STANDARDS
ISO 14001 is an International Standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS) published by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). It provides a framework that organisations can implement to develop an effective environmental management strategy, helping them reduce their environmental impact, comply with regulations, and improve overall environmental performance.
As part of ISO 14001, organisations must create and document an environmental policy, setting out their commitment to environmental protection, compliance, and continuous improvement. In 2015, changes to the standard allowed companies to use digital technology solutions to replace traditional written procedures.
Asgard Controlled Environments required a solution that could facilitate clear and transparent reporting for alignment with ISO standards, inform strategic environmental decision-making, and communicate performance to various stakeholders in an auditable and accessible way.
WHY SUSTAINIQ?
James Roche, HSQE Manager at Asgard Controlled Environments said “The scope and scale of ESG Reporting has grown massively. Not only is it critical from a regulatory perspective, but it has become a key part of our commercial success. We needed a system that would enable us to move away from spreadsheets, and that could provide us with a single real-time view of our activities and performance.”
IMPACT
SustainIQ has been instrumental in supporting Asgard Controlled Environments to achieve their ISO14001 Certification. James Roche, HSQE Manager stated that “SustainIQ has helped us to reduce the time taken to achieve ISO 14001 certification on this project by around 50%. All the information that had been collated across the project from inception phase right through to delivery could be found in one place, providing us with easy access and clarity of information during the audit stage”.
Group Sustainability Lead John Dooley further remarked that “as a supplier to both the public and private sector, accurate and concise ESG Reporting is critical to Asgard Controlled Environments being awarded such projects, and SustainIQ has provided us with the ability to track and demonstrate our ESG initiatives and commitments in a consistent and timely format by providing real-time data flows”.
SustainIQ has been instrumental in helping us to achieve ISO 14001 certification for this project. The platform’s reporting features have not only simplified compliance but have also provided us with demonstratable insights that will continuously improve our environmental practices.
